Gogo Boots - A Potted History

By Chris Rice

Boots are so much a part of the fashion scene that it is strange to think that before the 1960s boots were only worn in bad weather! Nowadays, no self-respecting dedicated follower of fashion would be without at least one pair of boots in their wardrobe. Boots are worn throughout the year and, even on the hottest days, it is still possible to see girls wearing the latest "Ugg" or Gogo boots, teamed with a mini dress or shorts.

It was in the 1960s that boots really came into their own as an item of fashion wear. During this decade, hemlines rose higher and higher. As dresses and skirts became shorter, the boots became taller and tighter. Fashion was all about accentuating the leg and boots were key in attracting attention to this area of the body.

In the late fifties and early sixties, girls still danced in stiletto heels, but these were very uncomfortable when worn for long periods of time. Teenagers began wearing boots instead, as these were more comfortable for discotheque dancing. These calf-high white boots were named Gogo boots, after the "go-go" dancers who wore them.

It was not long before wearing boots became part of the world of high fashion and were worn by women of all ages. This was mostly thanks to the French fashion designer Andres Courrege, who began creating fabulously styled boots in 1964, famously modelled by French singer Francoise Hardy and thus a craze was born.

Since the early beginnings of the Gogo boot, it can be categorically stated that boots have never gone out of fashion. They may have changed in style, shape, size, material and colour but boots have been constantly worn as a fashion item since the 1960s. Even the humble Wellington boot has become a fashion staple, due to the practical necessity of having to wear them at pop festivals. Festivals such as Glastonbury, Reading and Leeds are notorious for taking place in inclement weather, all too often becoming mud baths and any sensible festival goer takes a pair of Wellies with them. At one time, Wellington boots came in boring black or Hunter green, but now brightly coloured and beautifully patterned styles are available, meaning that they are fashionable as well as practical.

Towards the end of the sixties, Gogo boots became tighter and taller, with higher heels and long zips. At their extreme, such boots became thigh-high, designed to be worn under the tiniest of mini skirts. Tight black boots as worn by Emma Peel in the television series "The Avengers" became very popular. Gogo boots were originally white, but soon were available in black, brown, red, yellow and just about any colour under the sun.

Vinyl was a popular fabric, due to its tight and clingy appearance and cheap cost, but by the seventies other materials such as leather and suede soon became popular. In the eighties, the craze of line dancing led to the popularity of cowboy and cowgirl boots, and boots shrunk back to the mid-calf, heels became lower, the toe became pointed and the boots themselves were adorned with tassels. Boots have come a long with since their Gogo days. Boots are both stylish and practical and, although styles may change, it is certain that the boot itself will never go out of fashion.

There's A Lot To Be Learned At A Fashion Blog

by Tony Philip

Keeping up with what's current and hot fashion-wise is often a difficult task, one better left for the professional designers. Knowing what color and style of apparel to wear this spring can be found easily by reading a fashion blog on the internet.

These blogging sites are the "grapevine" of current information and plenty of advice will be offered there. Of course not all that advice is valid or will even matter to anyone's particular circumstances. But the varied opinions and ideas are always interesting to pour through.

Blogging is today's daily newspaper

Participating in a fashion blog or any other topic which is the subject of a blog, can provide someone with plenty of up to the minute information. The fashion industry has their own select bloggers who's job it is to keep the public informed regarding current styles, accessories, and "hot" colors in apparel and that info will be as recent as what was worn at a luncheon today or last evenings night out on the town.

From street apparel to tux and tails

Typically, a fashion blog can keep the reader up to date regarding what to wear in any given situation, and perhaps even more important, what not to wear to those functions. This fickle industry is in a constant state of change so readers will seldom be bored by reading about what's new and happening on the fashion scene. Often these blogs cover more than just clothing, as they offer info from the leaders in the field and new upcoming designers as well. Personal styles change but the industry is still all about looking good.

Keeping up to the minute on fashion

Reading the fashion blog of your choice can help you keep up to the minute regarding current runway trends. The blogs found can be from world-wide sources that may be very knowledgeable regarding styles. Shoes and handbag styles and colors are constantly changing and this is often due to celebrity styles because many wish to wear exactly what their favorite actress has worn in their most recent movie or when spotted at a night club in LA or New York City. These trends may come from the small indie designers or "name" high designers who pass on their current trends by way of their own fashion blog.

Is it a fashion blog or a shopping blog?

Many of the popular blogging sites offer shopping advice such as where to find a particular style of dress or that "must have" pair of shoes seen worn by someone on a recent television sitcom. That can be useful because often they may be difficult to find locally. The fashion blog can cover many categories such as shopping advice which might be filled with buying advice given by anonymous bloggers who may or may not know what they are talking about.

Perhaps the best advice to be offered is take most of it with a "grain of salt" and come to your own decisions regarding what you wish to wear to a particular function. If the blogger in question is a fashion journalist they may know what they are talking about, but many are only there to voice their opinions and see their words in print.

How Vintage Women's Clothing Has Evolved Over Time

By Thomas V. Gosselin

We all must have heard the phrase old is gold. When we were kids we all used to go through our mother's closet and pretend to dress up like her. It was a very thrilling sight to see her wear her beautiful flowing gowns which would reach to the floor. They always had a sophisticated and classy look since they had a certain charm because of the cut and the way the gown was elegantly draped. In those classic times they were called flapper or sheath dresses. They were created from premium quality silk and polyester with intricate details, in fact silk was one of the most used fabrics since it was light, soft and it was perfect for evening dresses since the material would fall in a chic manner.

During the 40's vintage women's clothing was conservative but yet elegantly designed. The apparel was made from stunning sheer rayon crepe which had classic details of stitched down pleats that highlight the drape of the evening gown. They used self-covered buttons which gave a high neck effect and pocket flaps on the front of the dress. The skirts were lined at the bottom with ruffle details in the same stripe as the collar and cuff. These apparels were timeless and had a style statement of their own. The women would love to go and dress up for any occasion. They conducted themselves with poise and style.

The 50's saw vintage women's clothing change drastically to the little black dress, which was a craze at that time. It was a classic black dress designed with textured fabric which looks beautiful. Cotton was another fabric that was commonly used. It was comfortable plus it was easy to wear since you didn't have to take too much care of it. They were adorned with lace detail. Side zips was the new detail that was added to the dresses which gave a better fit. A lot of printed fabrics, pinks and pastel shades were used. Cotton fabrics didn't even need too much of maintenance.

During the iconic 60's, vintage women's clothing had redefined itself. It was the year of polka dots. Metallic silver polka dots on a sheer mesh lined in a solid cream color were quite in vogue. You even got so see beautiful velvet evening dresses with satin and lace work which just looked so glamorous that you just couldn't take your eyes of it. The 60's was also known as the swinging 60's due to the outburst of swing music. Everyone would dress up in their best attire for a fun night out. A lot of women also preferred the material crepe since it was comfortable to move around in and easy to maintain. They would also experiment with bright colors like turquoise and mint green.

The 70's saw a change in Vintage Women's Clothing, a lot more fitted dresses were becoming the new fashion trend with details like metal zips. The fabric rayon was used a lot during this periodic time. With some good tailoring this fabric would allow tiny folds which would have a very pleated look which would look spectacular. The dress would be simple but the detailing would create a very dramatic effect because of the folded pleats. Dark shades like navy blue were more in demand at this time. Another fabric that was popularly used was linen, which was soft and great for the summer.

All you need to do it pick up any of these types of dresses from your mothers closet add the modern twist and you ready to dazzle the world with vintage and modern combination to create something of your own. Say soft elegant drama in fabric and it screams vintage back at you. Find Vintage Women's Clothing and make an unparalleled entre at your next social do.

A-Line Shapes Are Always in Fashion

By Iris David

A-line fashion was first created by French designer Christian Dior, the main characteristics of this type of garment is a narrow shoulder, emphasised waist and a flowing wide skirt, hence the 'A'.

The A-line style is flattering as it sits snugly at the waist, caresses the hips and it is not too clingy ... come on admit it ladies sometimes it feels like this is the only shape that you want to wear! Not only this but it's a timeless style that is revered by top catwalk designers all the way to the high street. The A-line skirt was first made popular by Jacqueline Kennedy, who adopted the style in the 1960's due to its simplicity and elegance. So why do we love it so much?

A-line styles are perfect for rounder women or when you're having a plump day. It's great if you have wider hips, as it does not reveal the parts of the body that are bigger, so fabulous for the pear shaped ladies. If you are a very curvy women then opt for dresses with an empire waist, located below the breast which is also the perfect option for women who are pregnant as it's free-flowing and non-restrictive. What else? Well A-Lines are so feminine because they highlight the waist perfectly, they are casual enough to wear on weekends and for more informal offices.

Not only fantastic for strolling around town they are perfect for traveling on busy public transport and great for cycling as you feel free and are able to pedal faster and easier, which is superb for shifting those pounds so you can have a rest from you're A-line designs too!!

Most fabrics can be used to form an A-line garment, although heavier garments tend to drape differently. Lightweight cotton, silk are suitable for warmer weathers and give a nice dainty silhouette. Another great option is eco-jersey fabric, its slightly sporty and is great for hot sunny days. Remember the A-line shape is not recommended for really petite ladies as it can sometimes swamp the figure and look a tad drab ... so stick to body-con ... lucky you!!

Vintage Style Leather Belts

By Joe V.

Vintage is a term that is used loosely in the fashion industry when referring to an article of clothing that is symbolic to the 60s and 70s. Also referred to as 'retro', these articles of clothing are in demand and selling fast. They are hard to find by nature but with enough research can be found at thrift stores, vintage stores, and online.

When dealing with leather, you will come to know many designers use the word vintage or retro style in conjuction with their belts. It's not that the leather is from the 60s or 70s but more so their style reflects that of the 60s and 70s.

When working on leather, there are several methods by which you can age leather to make it look an feel vintage. One method that is very popular is to beat up the leather. Throw it on the ground, stomp on it, hit it with a hammer. Do anything that will produce bruses, marks, scratches on the skin. The more you beat it up the more vintage a piece of leather will look, just don't go over board.

Another method which is also popular is what is called Antique or Antiquing by which the surface of the leather hide is treated to emulate an old, rough, vintage style look. This is a trickier method to apply, you have to be very careful as you can easily ruin a whole piece of leather hide.

Fashion Belt Designers tend to stick with the distressed method as it's easier to perform but you can find some good vintage leather belts designers who have mastered the art of antiquing.

Che Guevara - A Style Symbol of Pop Culture?

By Shivee Sirmauri

I completely don't know. For me, Che Guevara was a revolutionary free-thinker and a complete rebel. I was just checking out his pictures on the internet and I found thousands of pieces of merchandise with his picture and name. It was shocking to know that people adore him as a style icon of pop culture and wear him on their attire. I was just wondering, what exactly do these, so called cool and hip people know about Che Guevara?

How did Guevara became a part of fashion, style and trend? Then I thought, maybe it makes the fashion freaks feel as if they are a part of Che Guevara's revolution, struggle or philosophy. Shockingly and sadly, the majority of the people were unaware of the real Guevara! Most of them mistook him for some pop star.

Then, I started wondering, when these youngsters are unaware of Guevara, why are they making his products so popular? I was also curious to know how anyone can follow a person, about whom he/she has just heard some romanticized stories. What I know about the great revolutionary leader is that he represented intellectualism, rebelliousness, and communism. How he became so "fashionable" is still a mystery to me.

Well, if you are one of those who just want to make a cool fashion statement out of Che Guevara without knowing his history, I will definitely request you to check out how a medical science student became a martyr. Please, don't be a mere part of this fashion arena, don't idolize him, and don't carry his legacy until you know this iconic rebel.

Maybe, I am sounding like a fool who is asking fashion buffs to actually relate themselves to him. But Che Guevara, the symbol and global insignia of youth across the globe is someone you should really go through wiki, at least once. Hope you will enjoy your Che Guevara accessories more after reading this article.

Hippie Fashion - What is the Current Trend?

By Margot C Warren

What's hot for the season? The scoop is tie dye is SUPER HOT and colour is the dominant theme. Tie dye fashion has been around since the 60's with all the glorious rainbow colours. With the advancement of techniques in dying we are now seeing some gorgeous variety of colours being used in the tie dye industry.

Traditionally we had the rainbow colours, which naturally are still in style and always available. However, if you love purple which is one of the most popular colours around right now. There is such a great choice of different styles in purple. Purple can be mixed with such a wide range colours as it has blue pigment and blue can be mixed and matched with any colour.

Boho Chic

The most outstanding trends are the ethnic influence. Bollywood style skirt tie dyed with small bells at the waist tie as well as sequins studded through the skirt. Crinkle skirt that you do not need to iron, not only great fashion but easy care as well. Layered skirts that have different colours in every layer, brightening up your wardrobe. With the Gypsy style influencing our fashion at the moment, which is very feminine and whimsical.

The Wrap skirt

One of the easiest to wear skirts. You can purchase this without trying it on as you can rest assured that it will fit. Wrap skirts, as well as dresses and pants are very Hot in London right now. With all the varying designs they can be a casual look or extremely classy. This means you can be in style both during the day or at night. Some of the long silk skirts can be wrapped as a dress so you are able to achieve fashion on a budget 2 outfits in one.

Tie dyed Hippie Pants

They are so comfortable and you will be noticed for your great fashion style. They can be worn with tight little t-shirt or for the really casual look with large oversized tops. Fantastic for pregnant women who do not want to buy maternity gear and only wear them while they are pregnant. The shirring stretches allowing you to wear the garment anytime, right at the start and all the way to the end of pregnancy.

I am the only on line seller of Festival Clothing, I sell these garments on eBay as I absolutely love tie dye fashion. I have always loved Boho Indian Tie Dye fashion. And now much to my delight I have the opportunity to sell this fantastic fashion on eBay. A few months ago I was introduced to Brett he is the owner of Festival Clothing. I had recently started selling on eBay and was looking for some really HOT fashion to sell. My blog is http://groovytiedye.com
