An
impressive cast of artists from a variety of genres, including members
of such classic-rock legends as Cream, Yes, Def Leppard, The Kinks and
Deep Purple, appears on a new album paying homage to The Who.
Who Are
You: An All-Star Tribute to The Who will be released on CD on October 2,
and features renditions of 16 of the beloved band's famous tunes,
including "Baba O'Riley," "My Generation," "Won't Get Fooled Again,"
"Love Reign O'er Me" and "Behind Blue Eyes."
Among the well-known
musicians contributing to the collection are Cream drummer Ginger
Baker, longtime Yes keyboardist Rick Wakeman, Def Leppard frontman Joe
Elliott, Kinks guitarist Dave Davies and Deep Purple drummer Ian Paice.
A
number of the tracks boast interesting combinations of artists. For
example, the disc includes a version of "Who Are You" featuring country
star Gretchen Wilson and founding Guess Who /Bachman-Turner Overdrive
member Randy Bachman.
Some of the other well-known musicians on the
collection include Todd Rundgren, Iggy Pop, 38 Special, Mountain
frontman Leslie West, Sweet, and ex-Judas Priest guitarist K.K. Downing.
