"Boho Clothing" is a style. It originates from the Indian gypsies of the 1300′s who were leaving India due to its difficulties at the time. This is why you often see Indian influenced patterns worked into the style. Because of the nomadic tendencies of the gypsies, the style spread throughout Europe and made it's way into the United States and, now, Hollywood. Its American roots stem more from the artists of Romania and France and have been the chosen or natural style of those who perhaps have had to purchase their clothing second hand.
The Beatniks of the 40′s and 50′s were artists and often hobo travelers. Their style was influenced by the Bohemian artists of Europe (Paris in particular). The European version is often stereotyped by a turtleneck and a beret. The style continued to flourish in the United States during the 60′s and 70′s as it was picked up by the Hippie movement. "Hippie" was a term which sprung from the "Hipsters" of the Beat movement. Hippies also tended to be artsy and free-thinking and were often nomadic as well.
Today, the look continues to be a hot trend in Hollywood which has influenced its staying power throughout the United States and around the world. Celebrities who are known for their Boho Chic fashions include: Stevie Nicks, Sienna Miller, Mischa Barton, Kate Moss, Nicole Richie, the Olsen Twins, Carrie Underwood, Hillary Duff, Kirsten Dunst, and Lindsay Lohan. There are also a host of male celebrities who sport the look, including Johnnie Depp, Lennie Kravitz, and Paul Newman. Check out the runway and it's all over the place! Boho Clothing is a style built to last!
Justin L White has worked in the Boho Clothing retail market for several years. He is also fascinated by the mark on history created by the Beatniks and Hippies. Currently, he has a store specializing in Boho clothing and gifts from around the world and is looking to market online.
